The History of Face Painting

Face painting can be traced back to ancient Egypt up to modern times. It explores the reasons people painted their faces, i.e. camouflage, worship rituals, tribal identification etc. The show follows face painting around the globe with examples form several countries as well as our own.

We include definitions of unfamiliar words and the unusual origins of some common words. This program consists of the 10 minute slide show and concludes with a face painter allowing the participants to pick from a selection of the historical face designs and have their faces painted in the style they chose.
